<r t="41.52">so what is blended a it is a three any package that is used to</r>
<r t="49.09">produce a full blown movies</r>
<r t="55.67">here's a few titles that the blender foundation the</r>
<r t="59.69">the mother all the project have want the than they possible they just one big</r>
<r t="66.73">please feel which is</r>
<r t="72.02">a site finally we if you've ever seen any one of those movies definitely checkout</r>
<r t="78.03">belief in tell which is</r>
<r t="80.18">actual movie okay</r>
<r t="82.97">out of all those that are produced and it stands on its own but most</r>
<r t="88.17">of these are really great have that for a developing wonder so they provided really</r>
<r t="95.15">you know use cases relevant use cases for the to develop it's also at getting</r>
<r t="105.87">production environment so it can be used to</r>
<r t="112.69">develop games i'm actually considered using the game engine to produce interactive prototypes</r>
<r t="122.17">for know are we didn't even try to for the pins</r>
<r t="128.58">footsteps and then in blender</r>
<r t="132.34">which i can just demo my failure</r>
<r t="136.59">see</r>

<r t="186.42">present like that with image plane but it turns out to be very clumsy but</r>
<r t="190.38">you can do pretty much anything with wonder but back to topic so it is</r>
<r t="195.49">be game engine it is also i wanna creation tool</r>
<r t="200.94">remotely i view somebody iphones in the you know that were created also thanks to</r>
<r t="209.56">winter</r>
<r t="213.01">and we also use it for documentation some of you have seen my R L</r>
<r t="217.98">G M talk</r>
<r t="219.43">where are discussed the getting started project</r>
<r t="223.04">that</r>
<r t="225.07">me and that are</r>
<r t="230.62">created for</r>
<r t="232.69">the last release of know so it's sort of a</r>
<r t="240.64">really simplistic animation describing and showing kind of a hands on</r>
<r t="248.82">helping people make the first footsteps in brno</r>
<r t="254">and there are it's actually translate it</r>
<r t="257.25">so</r>
<r t="259.53">the</r>
<r t="261.01">the tool lender actually have very good integration with a scripting language</r>
<r t="267.64">so we just call the renderer after translating all the strings</r>
<r t="272.44">so even the animation itself is translated</r>
<r t="277.67">a what i'm gonna be talking about here is using blender as a prototyping tool</r>
<r t="285.92">for prototyping</r>
<r t="289.3">the sort of transitive state</r>
<r t="293.84">so</r>
<r t="294.92">prototyping animation</r>
<r t="297.31">why is why did i choose blender apart from the fact that it's a tool</r>
<r t="302.94">that's available</r>
<r t="305.84">mainly</r>
<r t="309.12">because of iteration to get something i'm actually we getting ahead of myself i have</r>
<r t="319.03">done this talk will probably repeat a lot of the things that i said on</r>
<r t="324.83">if you follow the you know design channel one you to have had a series</r>
<r t="331.5">of</r>
<r t="332.61">of tutorials or</r>
<r t="336.02">videos of behind the scenes a looks</r>
<r t="339.18">add how to do motion design would blender</r>
<r t="344.24">so the that before god i'm probably gonna</r>
<r t="348.16">handout or pdf or so the shortcut url is actually the play list of all</r>
<r t="354.7">the "'cause" the channel is full of other walk outside</r>
<r t="358.71">and other interesting things but that is just to play list for the</r>

<r t="366.97">i would have shortly talk about why we need to mark up and design these</r>
<r t="372.87">conditions</r>
<r t="376.87">you may have noticed that we kind of shifted</r>
<r t="381.12">in our design kind of shifted away from those</r>
<r t="384.8">everything at your fingertips kind of interfaces where</r>
<r t="390.91">everything it is thrown at you at the same time</r>
<r t="395.37">to words more streamlined interfaces</r>
<r t="399.01">some people</r>
<r t="400.51">you know</r>
<r t="401.98">kind of mistakenly associate that with touch interface is of the form for factor it's</r>
<r t="410.33">not related to touch adjusted something that happened</r>
<r t="414.22">when you devices got popular so we're doing to interface is that</r>
<r t="421.79">try to minimise the number of controls and chrome you know being shown at the</r>
<r t="429.2">same time but only show you control that</r>
<r t="432.27">are necessary in the context of what you're viewing and this sort of</r>
<r t="437.57">requires</r>
<r t="440.32">to change of scenes or change the interface it required the interface to be more</r>
<r t="447.23">dynamic</r>
<r t="448.58">and i have a few examples</r>
<r t="454.91">actually as i was</r>
<r t="456.74">sitting</r>
<r t="458.39">and being very</r>
<r t="462.26">drawing to the last lecture also observed a john hacking on scrolling</r>
<r t="468.49">and</r>
<r t="470.9">so</r>
<r t="471.87">seeing him struggle with scrolling at a little window by only a small bit one</r>
<r t="479.42">line and this thing happening you know been are a without this move</r>
<r t="486.85">transition between that and well one line is probably</r>
<r t="492.48">not as much of a change if you're</r>
<r t="497.22">repainting you're seeing like with you know to if you remember virtual desktop for workspaces</r>
<r t="506.81">we're not perceived by majority of people very well because the transition just button there</r>
<r t="515.47">it would be in a very you will have one workspace only windows and suddenly</r>
<r t="521.12">either by hitting a shortcut to miss clicking on the toolbar your mentors disappear and</r>
<r t="527.35">there was usually no you know indication or feedback what actually happened</r>
<r t="535.39">i have another example of this</r>
<r t="538.28">directly in blender</r>
<r t="541.06">it's just</r>

<r t="633.41">into the play so the transition really helps you navigate in the three D space</r>
<r t="639.6">and inventor this is actually an option because they're from crazy</r>
<r t="644.32">and a some people think like feel this that's a factual fraction of a fine</r>
<r t="650.22">but it helps a lot by figuring out where you are in space so that's</r>
<r t="655.65">why the transitions</r>
<r t="658.31">are actually very helpful</r>
<r t="661.92">in communicating what's actually happening in front</r>
<r t="668.88">i think this is the default now</r>
<r t="672.24">it's a you know it's probably in the options somewhere</r>
<r t="677.33">but you can try to help me find it</r>
<r t="695.56">it is somewhere</r>
<r t="699.56">i don't know</r>
<r t="704.55">so</r>

<r t="708.97">are you usually never get anything right the first time and people sort of expect</r>

<r t="719.41">or when i post something on the you to channel that is the final thing</r>

<r t="727.4">we need to have tools that allow us to quickly integrate</r>
<r t="731.43">and get things right especially in that at the time you don't wanna wait for</r>
<r t="738.07">some like you're gonna be switching workspaces all the time but you know the timing</r>
<r t="744.18">has to be have to be right</r>
<r t="746.63">so to get</r>
<r t="749.16">that flexibility of being able to change</r>
<r t="754.29">the timing</r>
<r t="756">you have to have a preview</r>
<r t="759.75">of what you're doing and blender has a fairly</r>
<r t="765.35">reasonable view in the three D view or that are usually because this is primarily</r>
<r t="772.92">a three D package you for you know more delaying the primary view with usually</r>
<r t="780.24">the wire frame but it also have and then we looked some something that's interesting</r>
<r t="785.36">works</r>
<r t="786.83">scrolling one was good so this is an old very old</r>
<r t="790.95">a project of mine but you can see here in the preview i'm</r>
<r t="796.93">i'm seeing a image textures so this is a textured view as the O G</r>
<r t="804.06">L S L U and it gets pretty accurate i can also</r>
<r t="809.28">hide everything</r>
<r t="810.11">that's outside the camera</r>
<r t="812.98">can</r>
<r t="814.89">select first</r>
<r t="817.53">hear him or buttons in a</r>
<r t="820.78">but to is the</r>
<r t="824.73">i'm looking at it probably</r>

<r t="851.89">getting the timing right</r>
<r t="853.95">but</r>
<r t="855.34">unfortunately it has many drawbacks</r>
<r t="859.1">the kind of animation that we need</r>
<r t="862.96">usually involves</r>
<r t="865.43">switching</r>
<r t="868.81">states of at the few you can see all the objects</r>
<r t="874.21">i just tell you know matched planes and they have a texture touch to it</r>
<r t="879.5">want to like mimic</r>
<r t="882.8">at change of a seeing eye usually blended between then what have the material consisting</r>
<r t="890.68">of two image textures</r>
<r t="893.14">that are applied but</r>
<r t="897.19">to the colour of the material and the alpha channel five the transparency or opacity</r>
<r t="903.99">of that object</r>
<r t="905.68">and one blending between then does not</r>
<r t="908.81">get real time rendered in the jealous of you</r>
<r t="913.36">so you're not getting you're not getting you're not seeing</r>
<r t="917.73">just do another example this straight it's</r>

<r t="927.36">fairly</r>
<r t="928.61">long so you're gonna</r>
<r t="931.55">you</r>
<r t="932.64">trip down memory lane a little</r>
<r t="938.43">you can see they all thought is not compass of it correctly and also when</r>
<r t="942.99">you go to the overview it should be shaded with black the textures of the</r>
<r t="950.81">windows actually change in season really for design of virtual workspaces going on there so</r>
<r t="959.75">the G are selling you is not perfect</r>
<r t="964.98">it has in many cases</r>
<r t="969.53">walls the pixel is not getting seriously hot</r>
<r t="978.48">what's the solution</r>
<r t="981.14">i thought it i don't have any sounds</r>
<r t="983.92">i</r>
<r t="988.74">so the blender guys came up with just for me they came up with a</r>
<r t="994.68">new rendering engine</r>
<r t="996.62">which is impressive in many other ways but for me the biggest i think that</r>
<r t="1004.1">it brought was the interactive preview inside</r>
<r t="1009.63">the view port itself so you're not actually so to go back to my former</r>
<r t="1016.97">work flow if i actually wanted to see what's the animation</r>
<r t="1023.97">will look like</r>
<r t="1025.31">required me to render these into a either and i nation power later always just</r>
<r t="1031.65">doing image stills for reason that time</r>
<r t="1034.86">can't explain if you're interested</r>
<r t="1038.82">so it was waiting</r>
<r t="1041.62">and i had my old computer it was really slow now i have like multi-core</r>
<r t="1046.52">beast of a machine so it's better but still it's a drag</r>
<r t="1053.53">you can make a mistake and you don't see it and i do every time</r>
<r t="1058.14">i can make a mistake i make it into corrected i make another one</r>
<r t="1062.54">so it's just and it's especially easy in blender because there's like lots of</r>
<r t="1068.69">things where you are reusing the same</r>
<r t="1072.02">like material or texture that you're using elsewhere and then you</r>
<r t="1076.34">change it's</r>
<r t="1077.85">without thinking that it's actually being used by multiple objects or you break it elsewhere</r>
<r t="1083.13">and you don't see it until you hundred and you render it</r>
<r t="1086.77">so it's just a very tedious work for</r>
<r t="1090.96">so we did</r>
<r t="1093.3">with the new</r>
<r t="1095.91">and i'm now going to you know</r>
<r t="1100.84">it was the solution for a</r>
<r t="1104.36">to avoid like fracture bugs with cycles</r>
<r t="1107.85">it's disabled by default if you open it</r>
<r t="1112.66">so we don't actually it it's a rates and provides are real time of sort</r>
<r t="1118.79">of preview directly in the three D view port</r>
<r t="1123.66">and this is an accurate</r>
<r t="1125.61">render</r>
<r t="1127.14">so</r>
<r t="1130.93">except for motion will are which i'm only using because i'm used to twenty five</r>
<r t="1136.84">frames per second well</r>
<r t="1140.3">and just to like provide that fluidity for the i cheat will using motion better</r>
<r t="1146.96">rather than doing everything sixty frame saying that a takes a lot longer and it's</r>
<r t="1152.51">not really needed for the for the mark ups</r>
<r t="1155.15">but apart promotion bore it really provides an accurate render sure that had brought something</r>
<r t="1162.47">more interesting than this but what we're where you're saying for our mock ups is</r>
<r t="1168.31">never i i'll it scene so the materials are all these image planes are being</r>
<r t="1175.66">transmitted so they're trying to me so there's no actual lighting</r>
<r t="1183.14">it's very simple i bought</r>
<r t="1185.39">if i move around in the</r>
<r t="1188.01">in the time line everything that i see</r>
<r t="1192.05">is that an accurate render</r>
<r t="1195.1">that i'm gonna get where everybody's into image styles</r>
<r t="1199.03">of course</r>
<r t="1200.15">i have i don't have a very all for machine it is our full but</r>
<r t="1206.06">not as powerful to be able to</r>
<r t="1211.02">keep up and giving me a real time preview</r>
<r t="1214.01">so this is this is this is playback but it's not really keeping up</r>
<r t="1218.85">with the real time playback</r>
<r t="1222.07">but i can switch back to something that material you</r>
<r t="1227.77">or just wire frame to be able to rehearse the timings</r>
<r t="1232.51">better but still</r>
<r t="1234.94">like have another window of cycles</r>
<r t="1237.56">or just switched which the</r>
<r t="1240.73">which the view that would be we give you a real time preview</r>
<r t="1245.43">and this is actually markup for the work that colour doing</r>

<r t="1287.8">explaining the different material setup</r>
<r t="1293.23">that you have for you have a question</r>
<r t="1301.74">so like i said the things are completely different in cycles in terms of material</r>
<r t="1309">setup but</r>
<r t="1312.04">you know the under community is got infinite resources so they're actually maintaining the two</r>
<r t="1316.71">engines can currently but i think the new well this so much better and make</r>
<r t="1322.03">so much more sense in the older will you had like a special switch which</r>
<r t="1328.51">with a shade less</r>
<r t="1330.7">that a lot you to do something like this where you did not worry about</r>
<r t="1335.83">know complex lighting your mopping up a user interface everything is just flat shaded all</r>
<r t="1343.37">the textures are just that you know what materials aren't very sophisticated just the texture</r>
<r t="1349.5">that trying in colour and can be transparent and even that it didn't do all</r>
<r t="1355.16">to well like landing</r>
<r t="1358.06">the transparency a long the colour the state with kind of</r>
<r t="1362.86">finicky at times because you would get that all what channel of the</r>
<r t="1367.35">you know a blend of to well what channel it's just it's a there were</r>
<r t="1371.19">cases where this is the right and of set up with actually quite tedious</r>
<r t="1377.41">this set of materials enough and now so i called</r>
<r t="1384.36">makes more sense in my opinion but you know i was used to something else</r>
<r t="1389.52">i love that i know so we was a little bit tricky not there is</r>
<r t="1398.23">no start you</r>
<r t="1401.7">there is a very helpful tool</r>
<r t="1404.27">to help you with</r>
<r t="1407.63">using blender for you sort of to the</r>
<r t="1410.81">and emission and that is important images this one</r>
<r t="1414.85">so it's a script</r>
<r t="1416.28">that you to do just that it's not enable but default so what you do</r>
<r t="1422.77">is it is like and then dons a tab</r>
<r t="1426.91">and you search for import</r>
<r t="1430.3">images as planes and it right here</r>
<r t="1433.72">you just and he will that</r>
<r t="1436.4">and you have it</r>
<r t="1440.37">so now we can import images and explains</r>
<r t="1445.11">and this is actually two scripts at one because right now i mean the all</r>

<r t="1496.31">so in cycles the materials are</r>

<r t="1522.58">that the import script has</r>
<r t="1525.51">and then you old wallpaper</r>

<r t="1542.37">plus transparency you want to select the emission and transparent so the material will image</r>

<r t="1550.47">and it's going to use the alpha channel from the image</r>
<r t="1555.8">to use as a transparency mask</r>
<r t="1559.27">for or fate or</r>
<r t="1562.68">sure right here also</r>
<r t="1565.12">there's multiple ways of how you can scale the image into the see i'm just</r>
<r t="1570.02">gonna</r>
<r t="1571.06">use the</r>
<r t="1572.91">a relative</r>
<r t="1576.05">size so</r>

<r t="1632.76">anyway so this is the right way to set it up</r>
<r t="1641.38">so the way it works the materials are actually ripple shader</r>
<r t="1647.86">so</r>
<r t="1649.91">D colour information like a admission shader which would normally a lot of you set</r>
<r t="1656.57">a colour</r>
<r t="1658.17">to and it</r>
<r t="1659.92">use for lance</r>
<r t="1662.21">essentially or</r>
<r t="1665.21">that sort of thing</r>
<r t="1667.67">parts instead we are using the image texture what</r>
<r t="1673.09">the image texture i don't really know what drink feel is</r>
<r t="1678.56">so let's just say that the colour information from the image is being passed to</r>
<r t="1684.61">the emission</r>
<r t="1686.66">shader</r>
<r t="1688.37">that would</r>
<r t="1689.59">in this case give us exactly what we what we need unfortunately or in the</r>
<r t="1695.97">cases where there is from transparency information we would need the other bit which is</r>
<r t="1703.4">a transparent shader which usually just</r>
<r t="1706.44">is that if i set the colour</r>
<r t="1711.97">that</r>
<r t="1714.67">i don't know why my name</r>
<r t="1717.07">what do you want to do with that one</r>
<r t="1721.55">yes i do want</r>
<r t="1724.14">there's probably a for</r>

<r t="1755.43">the in they did image going in here</r>
<r t="1759.88">that would normally be like mixed based on the factor that's here so this would</r>
<r t="1764.74">be fifty percent transparent if i would keep the fancy channel white</r>
<r t="1771.88">but we're gonna use the alpha channel as a map</r>
<r t="1776.74">sue</r>
<r t="1779.28">i don't wait calls here is a right so</r>
<r t="1785.16">in this case the output channel is exactly the same is just the white</r>

<r t="1833.53">which i actually have to do for a lot of scenes that i had the</r>
<r t="1838.02">when i was doing getting started</r>
<r t="1840.52">the cycles engine has the great motion blur that's fast and accurate and there's no</r>
<r t="1849.64">trouble with it as with the a composite or composite that a motion buffer that</r>
<r t="1857.6">the hold rendering engine provide or also have like attractive motion blur by that's like</r>
<r t="1867.88">if you want sixteen sample that means that each frame is rendered sixteen times it</r>
<r t="1872.75">was just ridiculously slow</r>
<r t="1875.36">so cycles great motion blur it's want to redo a lot of these things that</r>
<r t="1881.76">the import</r>
<r t="1883.36">images those planes rid of for you</r>
<r t="1887">but it was worth it i mean it's this well there's really much better so</r>
<r t="1892.13">another tool that i'm going to show you that's extremely useful for doing this sort</r>
<r t="1898.22">of</r>
<r t="1901.27">animation is the top sheet</r>
<r t="1904.16">which i don't want all hope she'd what</r>
